    DI Heritage & Arts Council

Dauphin Island Heritage & Arts Council DIHAC brings a night of mid-century modern glam and coastal chic to the island with its 2nd Annual Gulf Seafood Gala on October 6 from 6-9 p.m. at the Isle Dauphine Club.  Come celebrate the Club’s 60th Anniversary, and enjoy outstanding Alabama Gulf seafood cuisine, local art, music and dancing in this historic gulf-front venue.  The Gulf Seafood Gala has been endorsed by the Alabama Bicentennial Commission as an official 200Alabama Bicentennial event.  Admission is by advanced ticket purchase only.  Tickets are $75 each and are available online at www.dauphinislandarts.org, or at the Dauphin Island Gallery at 918A Bienville Boulevard on the island. The Dauphin Island Gallery will be a featured location on the upcoming Art Trail on Saturday, October 13.  DIHAC’s participating artists will be set up outside, and more art will be available inside.  Be sure to stop by! DIHAC has partnered with Dauphin Island Elementary School to provide an exciting art education and enrichment program for all grades for the current school year.  Students will do a comprehensive study of selected Masters, will learn the basics of the subject artist’s technique and will create individual art inspired by the study.  This program is volunteer-powered and funded by donor support.  We welcome anyone who has an interest in working with DIHAC’s youth education program.  Contact Melinda Hollingsworth at 205/527-2425. There will be no Last Friday Art Night open house at the gallery in September due to the date’s proximity to the Gulf Seafood Gala.  October LFAN is scheduled for October 26 and will be the opening reception for Guest Artist, Mary “Ching” Walters.  Ching has designed postage stamps for over 30 foreign countries, has illustrated greeting cards and children’s books and her designs have been cast in bronze by the Mississippi DOT and installed on Biloxi Bay Bridge.  Ching most recently lived and painted for five years in the Piemonte region of Italy, and currently resides in Loxley,  Alabama.  Ching is represented in galleries in three states, and counts among her prominent past clients and outlets the National Wildlife Federation, The National Audubon Society, the World Wildlife Fund, the Gibson-Riley Gallery of Houston, Sunshine Greetings and the Children’s Press of Chicago.  DIHAC is pleased to present the art of Ching to the Dauphin Island Community!
