  • 154th Battle of Mobile Bay Ft. Gaines

    9:00 AM
    Ft. Gaines

If you want to experience history and get up close to the action, historic Fort Gaines is the place for you as two popular events are on tap in the coming months. First up is the 154th Anniversary of the Battle of Mobile Bay Commemorative Day on August 4 from 9am-5pm. The well-preserved ramparts of Fort Gaines have guarded the entrance to Mobile Bay for more than 150 years. Now a fascinating historic site, the fort stands at the eastern tip of Dauphin Island where it commands panoramic views of the bay and Gulf of Mexico. This event highlights Fort Gaines’ integral role in the Battle of Mobile Bay. The cannon will be fired every 45 minutes to honor the soldiers that fought in this pivotal battle. Come and experience a living history day for the whole family. Blacksmith demonstrations will be offered all day in the Blacksmith Shop! If that isn’t enough…the 3rd Annual Massacre Island will be held on September 15-16. This event is hosted by Fort Gaines and the 6th Alabama Cavalry Buccaneers. Activities will include Flintlock Pistol Duels, Pirate Tug-of-War, Swashbuckling Sword Play, Cannon Firings, Blacksmithing, music by the Kracker Dan Band and a Treasure Hunt for the little ones! Adult admission is $8 and children admission (Age 5-12) is $4. Free admission for youngsters age 4 & under. Fort Gaines is open 9am-5pm daily.
